Today 2 May 2025 is the day, we – the Band that is Schmitz & Niebuhr, superpolar Taïps and Trillferfisch Records release one of their most ambitious projects – a 90 minute concept album turning progressive rock, sometimes even math-rock and art pop inside out.
The album’s concept and what it aims to depict musically may sound familiar to some of you: Municipal territorial reforms and with them so-called New Towns, planned areas and communities as well as municipalisations affected many European towns and villages in the seventies.
In our case, the City of Cologne was determined to break the one million population mark at all costs, even if the smallest, most remote village had to be included. Listen to Libur, a dark track featuring spoken word and very old synths, and you will get an idea.
Almost all musicians taking part in this album grew up in the then independent City of Porz, today Cologne’s largest district with more than 100K inhabitants. It was incorporated into Cologne on 1 Jan 1975.
To balance it all out a little, here a quote by Guido Möbius, one of the musicians contributing to the album and one of our best friends. He writes: “Porz was the best place in the world.”
You’ll find and read more in the beautiful 16-page full colour booklet, designed by our drummer Dierk. It is currently only available in German. Bear with us as we’re working on an English translation, we will provide it as a PDF soon.
Thank you!
